The city is looking at expanding its Downtown connectivity plans for workers, residents and visitors to now include the historic Rail Yards to the south.

Vegas Revival
The first time Allan Affeldt peeked inside the Castañeda Hotel 10 years ago, he figured it for a lost cause—another tragic chapter in the crumbling saga of Harvey House lodgings that once dotted the railroad and helped tame the West.

Denver's renovated Union Station has been a 30-year barn-raising
Denver's Union Station is the coolest food court in town. It's also the site of four full-service independent restaurants from some of the city's best chefs. It houses a 112-room luxury hotel, The Crawford Hotel, named for LoDo visionary Dana Crawford. And it's a real train (and bus) station.

Rail Yards developer required to build some workforce housing
How many living units might end up at Albuquerque’s historic Rail Yards? It’s still a little too early to tell.

The Wheels Museum

We are a volunteer run, non-profit organization established to preserve history, educate the public in the history of transportation, and provide our visitors with an opportunity to experience travel as it used to be. The Wheels Museum primary mission is to provide current and future generations with an understanding of the impact of transportation on New Mexico and the West. This mission will be fulfilled by the acquisition, preservation and exhibition of artifacts and ephemera in a facility operated by Wheels Museum in accordance with the principles set forth by the Board of Directors.

The Wheels Museum will be located on the site of the historic Santa Fe Railroad Shops in downtown Albuquerque, New Mexico. Built in 1914, the Albuquerque shops serviced steam locomotives operating on the Santa Fe Railroad.

Wheels Museum board meetings are held the second Wednesday of the  month and are open to the public. Please call Leba Freed at 505-243-6269 if you wish to attend in order to confirm the time and place.
