Friday, March 13, 2009

New Mexico Business Weekly

American Eagle Airlines plans to start offering service between Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and Santa Fe, starting June 11. American Eagle will use 44-seat Embraer jets for the single daily flight, which will feature a 10:55 a.m. departure out of Dallas and a 12:10 p.m. departure from Santa Fe.

The announcement came as welcome news to political leaders in New Mexico, who see better air service as a key to driving this state's economy.

"This is terrific news for residents and businesses alike," said U.S. Sen. Jeff Bingaman, D-N.M., in a statement. "Now our state's capital will be more easily accessible, making travel more convenient and creating economic opportunities."

Added Santa Fe Mayor David Coss: "This service is a long-anticipated opportunity, which will open new doors for Santa Fe businesses and help us move forward on our economic development goals of diversifying the local economy and
providing high-wage jobs."

American Eagle, a subsidiary of Fort Worth, Texas-based AMR Corp. (NYSE: AMR), operates 1,400 daily flights.
